The South China Sea and the rules-based order

More information has recently been coming out on the events leading up to China’s new and aggressive approach in the South China Sea. According to a report by journalist Shi Jiangtao, the Scarborough Shoal dispute in 2012 was actively mediated by Washington and in ways that cannot but raise eyebrows. I wonder why these events have not been more thorough…
